English classes provide an environment where students can learn to read and write or improve upon these skills. Many methods of instruction are used in these classes some of which are; individual reading, group reading, one-on-one reading with the instructor, class discussion, group and individual projects and creative instruction of the writing
process.
• Supplemental Reading Instruction
Reading classes are used to help students work towards reading mastery. Many methods of instruction are used in these classes including but not limited to; guided reading, group reading and discussion, journal writing and film/written word comparison. All of these methods are used for the purpose of providing the student with a positive relationship to written text.
• Special Education English and Reading
Special Education Reading and English classes are designed to work on the specific needs of each student. The methods used in these classes are based upon the Individual Education Plans (IEP) of each student but may include individual reading, group reading, independent and collaborative work and one-on-one assistance.
• Deaf Education English and Reading
Deaf Education Reading and English classes are designed solely on the individual needs of each student. Classes will be structured according to each student’s IEP needs.
