Community Programs
"Every family matters."- Cathedral Home for Children's Community Programs
History
In the late1970’s, the Laramie Youth Crisis Center (LYCC) began as a 24-hour emergency care and shelter program for families and youth in crisis. In 1981, the Crisis Center became part of Cathedral Home for Children. Cathedral Home for Children built the present shelter in 1986, with support of city and county governments, grants, and private donations.
In 1996, a record number of intakes led to the expansion of services to include more preventive programs. We believe children are best raised by families and sometimes those families need extra support and new skills. Our prevention programs: ACES (Albany County Expelled and Suspended Students), Extended Families and Parenting Wisely, are geared to stregthen families and provide support and skills. The Crisis Center also offers transitional services for older teens who are working on independence. Throughout this expansion our initial mission of caring for families in crisis has reamained constant and our 24 hour crisis line continues to be actively used.
